A complete closure of the A30 between Scorrier and Boxheater starting from 8pm tonight, May 10, until 6am on Monday, May 13.
This closure forms a crucial part of the ongoing ÂŁ330 million upgrade project on the A30, a key artery of the national road network that has been under significant redevelopment since March 2020.
Weekend Traffic Adjustments
During this period, all westbound high sided vehicles are advised to reroute via Chacewater to bypass the low bridge at Scorrier, standing at 4.7 meters in height. This adjustment aims to facilitate smooth traffic flow and prevent any vehicular incidents. For all other vehicles, both eastbound and westbound, under the height limit, an alternative route through Blackwater has been designated.
Local access will remain open north and south via the B3284 at Chybucca. Motorists are encouraged to follow the designated diversion routes and heed the guidance on local signage, steering clear of relying solely on satellite navigation systems.

Strategic Upgrade Details
The A30 upgrade, stretching from Chiverton Cross to Carland Cross, has been identified as a critical development in the Government’s Roads Investment Strategy, attracting a substantial investment including an £8 million grant from the European Regional Development Fund. This project is not just a roadway enhancement but a strategic enhancement to improve connectivity and boost local and regional economies.
Upcoming Closures and Advice
Looking ahead, the National Highways has scheduled additional closures for the A30:
- May 17 to May 20: Weekend closure between Chiverton and Boxheater.
- June 3 to June 6: Overnight closures between Chiverton and Mitchell.
These dates are tentative and could change based on the progression of work and weather conditions. Road users are advised to plan their travels in advance during these times, avoid non-essential trips, and allow extra time for journeys in the area.
Stay tuned to local updates and plan your travel accordingly to avoid delays and disruptions during these critical improvement works on one of Cornwall’s key transport routes.
