A30 Weekend Closure Friday 22/03/2024 – Monday 25/03/2024

Published On: 22 March 2024Last Updated: 22 March 2024By

The A30, a crucial artery in the UK’s Strategic Road Network, linking Chiverton Cross to Carland Cross, will see a temporary halt this weekend. From Friday, 22 March at 8pm to Monday, 25 March at 6am, the stretch between Boxheater and Chiverton will be closed to all traffic. This move is part of the ongoing efforts to upgrade the A30 from a single to a dual carriageway, enhancing road safety and traffic flow.

To minimise disruption, a comprehensive diversion has been arranged. Motorists, including those driving heavy goods vehicles and high-sided vehicles, are advised to follow the detour via the B3285 and A3075. These routes have been selected to ensure a smooth transition for traffic around the closure site, aiming to mitigate congestion and delays.

Strategic Importance of the A30

The A30 is recognised for its strategic value, connecting various regions and serving as a vital link for commuters, local residents, and the transport of goods. The current upgrade project has garnered significant investment, including an £8m contribution from the European Regional Development Fund. This enhancement is a critical component of the Government’s Roads Investment Strategy, underscoring the national importance of the A30 upgrade.

A Weekend of Adjustment

While the closure may pose temporary inconvenience, the long-term benefits of a more efficient, safer road network are undeniable. Motorists are encouraged to plan their journeys in advance and allow extra time for travel. The authorities are committed to ensuring that the diversion routes are well signposted and as clear as possible.

As the project progresses, further information, including future closure dates and diversion routes, will be made available through the National Highways website, ensuring the public remains informed and prepared for upcoming travel adjustments.
