Anna Gelderd MP Supports New Speed Cameras on A38 Between Carkeel and Trerulefoot

The long-awaited installation of new speed cameras on the A38 between Carkeel and Trerulefoot is now complete, with enforcement set to begin from Wednesday 20th August.

12 Cameras Now in Place

The scheme brings 10 average speed check cameras along the notorious stretch, as well as 2 spot cameras to enforce speed restrictions. The move is designed to crack down on dangerous driving and improve safety on a road that has seen countless collisions over the years.

After years of delays, a speed reduction scheme for the A38 was first announced in March. This project has been delivered through a new collaborative approach, with Cornwall Council, Devon and Cornwall Police’s Vision Zero and National Highways working together to secure funding and decision-making.

Anna Gelderd Welcomes the Move

Anna Gelderd, Member of Parliament for South East Cornwall, said:

“The A38 has been a serious concern for people in South East Cornwall for years. Delays in achieving road safety improvements are finally over, and I welcome the collaboration that has helped to get this scheme over the line.

“I’d like to thank everyone who has worked on this over the years. As your MP, I will continue to push for safer roads in South East Cornwall as one of my top priorities.”

Safety at the Forefront

The A38 has long been considered one of Cornwall’s most dangerous routes, with campaigners and residents raising concerns about speeding and collisions. The introduction of these cameras marks the start of stricter enforcement and closer management of traffic between Carkeel and Trerulefoot, aimed at reducing risks where a minority of drivers put others in danger.

With enforcement beginning tomorrow, drivers using this stretch of the A38 will now need to be more mindful of their speed, as the cameras come online to monitor compliance.
