Over 600 Responses Flood MP’s Survey on Tamar Tolls Ahead of Public Inquiry
Residents of South East Cornwall have responded in large numbers to a survey launched by Anna Gelderd, MP for South East Cornwall, concerning the proposed toll increases for the Tamar Bridge and Torpoint Ferry services. With over 600 responses received so far, the feedback highlights widespread concerns ahead of the public inquiry scheduled for later this month.
Gathering Local Feedback
Anna launched the survey on Friday 27th September 2024, seeking to gather opinions from local residents and businesses. The goal is to understand the potential impact of the proposed toll increases on those who rely on the Tamar Bridge and Torpoint Ferry for commuting, healthcare appointments, visiting loved ones, and transporting goods between Cornwall and Devon.
Key areas addressed in the survey include:
- Frequency of using the Tamar Bridge and Torpoint Ferry.
- Personal and financial impacts of the proposed toll increases.
- Understanding the reasoning behind the toll increase.
Anna, who has been a vocal advocate for South East Cornwall, is determined to ensure that local views are heard and considered during the inquiry. She is clear that she does not want to see toll increases or reductions in the Torpoint Ferry services, which many rely on daily.
Upcoming Public Inquiry
The public inquiry into the toll increases will begin at 10am on Tuesday 15th October at the Copthorne Hotel, Plymouth. Anna is committed to presenting the feedback she has gathered, giving a voice to those who depend on these vital transport links. Her longer-term goal is to make both the Tamar Bridge and Torpoint Ferry toll-free, an issue she has championed since her election.
The survey remains open until Friday 4th October 2024, and Anna continues to encourage residents to share their experiences. All responses will remain confidential, with any evidence used during the inquiry shared on a non-attributable basis.
How to Participate
For anyone wishing to contribute, the survey can be accessed via Anna’s social media channels or directly through this link.
