Traffic Disruption on the A38: Major Roadworks Near Saltash to Last Three Months
Commuters Urged to Plan Ahead as A38 Faces Significant Closures
Starting from Monday, 2 September, drivers in Cornwall will face significant disruption on the A38 near Saltash as major drainage improvement works begin. The project, being carried out by National Highways, will result in the full closure of the A38 between Landrake and Notter Bridge for one night on Wednesday, 4 September. The road will be closed from 8 pm until 6 am the following morning.
Contraflow in Place from Thursday
When the road reopens on Thursday, 5 September, both eastbound and westbound traffic will be funnelled onto the westbound carriageway in a contraflow system. This arrangement, which removes the overtaking lane between Landrake and Notter Bridge, is expected to cause delays, and drivers are advised to allow extra time for their journeys.
The contraflow will remain in place for the duration of the three-month project, which aims to improve safety and reduce the need for future unplanned closures. National Highways has also indicated that additional overnight closures will be necessary as the work progresses to move the contraflow system and allow for further maintenance across the full width of the carriageway.
Road Maintenance and Safety Enhancements
In addition to the drainage improvements, National Highways will take advantage of the closure to carry out other essential maintenance work. This will include repairing road surfaces, maintaining barriers, and clearing vegetation along the route.
The project, expected to last until early December, is part of ongoing efforts to enhance road safety and ensure the reliability of the A38, a key route for both local and through traffic in Cornwall.
National Highways will provide further updates, including details of future overnight closures, on their website.
