Will Tamar Bridge and Torpoint Ferry Tolls Increase? Inquiry Begins Soon

Published On: 4 October 2024Last Updated: 4 October 2024By

A Public Local Inquiry into the proposed toll increase for the Tamar Bridge and Torpoint Ferry is set to commence at the Copthorne Hotel in Plymouth on Tuesday, 15 October. The inquiry follows an application made by Tamar Crossings earlier this year to revise tolls on both crossings.

Independent Inspector to Lead the Inquiry

The inquiry will be overseen by an independent Inspector appointed by the Secretary of State for Transport. The Inspector will review the evidence presented by all parties and is tasked with considering the Toll Revision Application.

The public is welcome to attend the hearing, which will begin at 10 am and is expected to run for up to four days.

What Happens Next?

After the inquiry concludes, the Inspector will prepare a report outlining their recommendations. This report will be submitted to the Secretary of State for Transport, who will then make the final decision on whether to approve an increase in tolls for both the Tamar Bridge and Torpoint Ferry.

Both the Inspector’s report and the decision by the Secretary of State will be published by the Department of Transport.

This public inquiry marks an important step in deciding whether users of the Tamar Bridge and Torpoint Ferry will face higher tolls in the near future.
