The Roseland Trust has announced the retirement of its longstanding Chair of Governors, Nigel Hyde, who has been a steadfast advocate for education and safeguarding throughout his years of service. Nigel’s commitment to creating safe, supportive learning environments for young people has left a lasting mark on the Trust and the communities it serves.

A Career of Community Engagement

Nigel brought decades of expertise to his role, including his 30-year career with Devon and Cornwall Police. During the last seven years of his police tenure, he served as a Police Youth Intervention Officer, working closely with young people at risk. This experience in safeguarding and behaviour management equipped him to hold influential governance roles, including his role with The Roseland Multi Academy Trust, which he joined in 2009. Over the years, he championed accountability and support across the Trust, prioritising safety and a nurturing environment for students and families alike.

Praise from Colleagues

Chris Challis, CEO of The Roseland Trust, highlighted Nigel’s impact on the Trust’s mission, saying, “Nigel’s dedication to our communities and schools has been a guiding force, ensuring that our priorities stay clear through his unwavering support and challenge for our students and staff. Nigel’s passion, integrity, and commitment have left an indelible mark on our Trust and the families we serve. Nigel has always cared deeply for the staff, students and communities that The Roseland Trust serves. His passion for ensuring an environment that enables both students and staff to thrive has always been at the core of his work.”

New Leadership

Following Nigel’s retirement, Lisa Michell, a Trustee of The Roseland Trust, has been appointed as the new Chair of the Board. Reflecting on Nigel’s tenure, Lisa expressed her gratitude: “I have a hard act to follow in stepping into Nigel’s shoes! We have been incredibly fortunate to have him as our Chair. His boundless dedication and passion for the education and wellbeing of our young people have set a remarkable standard. Nigel will be greatly missed, but we are committed to carrying forward his vision and legacy.”

In her new role, Lisa shared her vision, saying, “I feel incredibly privileged to lead The Roseland Multi Academy Trust. With over twenty-five years in education, I am committed to ensuring each young person within our schools receives the best possible opportunities. I believe each of our learning communities is uniquely special and must be recognised and celebrated as such.”

Looking Ahead

Nigel’s retirement marks the end of a significant chapter for The Roseland Trust, but his influence will continue to resonate within the community for years to come.
