Children’s Day Returns to Truro on Saturday 21st June
Free activities, stunt shows and Vikings coming to town for Truro’s Children’s Day
Truro will be transformed into a giant playground on Saturday 21st June as Children’s Day returns to the city centre for a packed day of family fun, with many of the activities completely free.
Now in its eighth year, the event is being brought together by Truro BID with support from Coodes Solicitors, and will see around 35 local businesses and organisations taking part, along with nearly 30 shops and eateries offering family-friendly activities, competitions and deals.
Lemon Quay takes centre stage
Highlights on Lemon Quay will include the return of the popular mountain bike stunt shows, circus skills with Swamp Circus and a free obstacle course from walking and cycling charity Sustrans. Children can try scooters, balance bikes and pedal bikes, or test their off-road skills on static bikes – all equipment is provided.
There’ll also be swing boat rides, crazy golf (small charge applies), art and craft stalls and family games dotted around the area.
Dance performances will add to the atmosphere throughout the day, with appearances from Flanagan’s School of Irish Dance, Cornwall Dance School, Jason Thomas Performing Arts and Stagecoach Truro.

City-wide fun and a street market
For the first time this year, Pydar Street will play host to some of the action, with Viking warriors from Brederedh Cornovii and Cosplay characters from the True Butterflies Foundation, a charity that supports domestic abuse survivors.
A special Children’s Day Street Market will take over Boscawen Street, Pydar Street and High Cross. The regular Truro Farmers Market will temporarily move to Boscawen Street to allow more space for activities on Lemon Quay.
The market will feature local and indie traders selling everything from artisan food and drink to vintage finds, contemporary crafts and sustainable fashion. It’s being hosted in partnership with Cornwall Shop Small and Truro Farmers Market.
Truro’s permanent indoor markets – Lemon Street Market and the Pannier Market – will be open as usual and joining in the day’s fun with activities and special offers.
Support for children’s mental health
Truro-based charity CLEAR Emotion Trauma and Therapy Specialists will also be launching their new ‘Fred the Ted’ campaign on the day, with the aim of raising funds to help children across Cornwall access therapy following trauma.
More information about Fred’s Fund is available at clearsupport.net.
Bringing the community together
Alun Jones, Truro BID Manager, said: “We are really looking forward to bringing the eighth Children’s Day back to Truro this year. We hope that families will enjoy the wide range of activities on offer across the city. Thank you to all the businesses and organisations joining in again this year. As well as being a fun local celebration, Children’s Day helps to attract residents and visitors to stay longer in the city on the day.”
Elise Alma, Chair of Coodes Solicitors, added: “As a Cornish law firm at the heart of our community, we are delighted to be sponsoring Children’s Day for the third year in a row. It promises to be a wonderful event and as proud supporters, it’s great to see children and young people at the centre of the entertainment and activities. We very much hope that it’s a huge success and attracts families from far and wide to enjoy everything on offer in Truro.”
Activities run from 10am to 4pm across the city centre. While many are free, there will be a small cost for some, such as crazy golf and the swing boat rides.
Event information and updates are being shared at www.visittruro.org.uk and on Facebook at @visittruro. Full details of in-store activities and offers will be announced in the lead-up to the event.
