Children’s Day Returns to Truro This Saturday with Over 30 Activities and Offers

Families heading to Truro this weekend are in for a treat, as Children’s Day returns to the city centre on Saturday 21st June with over 30 free activities, giveaways and discounts.

Backed by Truro BID and sponsored by Coodes Solicitors, the day promises a packed schedule of entertainment, creative workshops and in-store fun for all ages.

Mountain bike stunts and circus skills on Lemon Quay

The action kicks off on Lemon Quay with mountain bike stunt shows, cycling try-outs, circus skills sessions and dance performances. It’s all free and designed to keep families entertained throughout the day.

Shops and cafes across Truro join in

To encourage visitors to stay longer in the city, more than 30 businesses and organisations have jumped on board with family-friendly activities and exclusive offers. These include arts and crafts, competitions, giveaways, discounts on clothing and toys, and special meal deals.

“We’re always keen to involve resident businesses in our events when we can. We hope that the in-store offers and activities, along the other elements that we’ve organised, will enable families to enjoy a huge variety of activities on the day. We’re delighted to have so many businesses taking part. A big thank you to all the businesses and organised who are involved in the event.”

What’s happening and where

Here’s a snapshot of what families can expect:

Arts and Crafts Activities

  • CLEAR at 8 Cathedral Lane – Free colouring and refreshments in their relaxed area.
  • Cornwall Museum and Art Gallery – Make your own animal mask and pose for a photo in their display cabinet. 11am – 3pm. No booking required.
  • Green Room Café, Hall for Cornwall – Stories, crafts, music, games and more throughout the day with Hall for Cornwall’s Get Creative Team. Make wishes, discover jewels, and take flight with their magic adventure of Aladdin.
  • Truro Community Library – Explore the Library Garden with a nature trail and do some leaf rubbings along the way.
  • Waterstones – Doggy-themed games and activities, including a scavenger hunt, colouring-in fun, and ‘feed’ a full-sized papier-mâché dog called Dreckly, inspired by new picture book by local author Anna Wilson.’

Clothing Offers

  • Griggs, Pydar Street – 20% in-store discount on full price items and a free toy with every purchase.
  • New Look – Shop at the 915 department from 11am until 3pm and have a go at the ‘Spin to Win’ game for money off your purchase.
  • Saltrock – 20% off full price items (exclusions apply) plus giveaways (see below).

Competitions and Giveaways

  • HSBC: Design your own coin to win prizes, plus free activity sheets and chocolate for the kids.
  • Lush – Free bath bomb workshop to the first fifty customers.
  • Marks and Spencer 10am—2pm: Meet Percy Pig on the ground floor, pick up a holiday stamp card from him and visit four locations in the city to collect stamps for your card. Return completed stamp card to enter a prize Percy themed giveaway.
  • Malletts Home Hardware – Grab a leaflet at the Malletts stall on Lemon Quay to get a free goodie bag from the shop at Victoria Square – plus free entry into their raffle to win a Lego set worth £54.99.
  • Pennyworth’s Sweet Shop: Take part in the ‘How many sweets are in the jar?’ competition 10:00 to 16:00 to win a £20 Pennyworth’s Voucher.
  • Saltrock: Play Tok’s Surfboard Sand Dip Game to win prizes. Activity sheets and a 20% discount in store (exclusions apply).
  • Zafiros – 20 goody bags to giveaway, along with colouring activities for children. Plus, meal deal (see below).

Face Painting

  • Lemon Street Market – Free kids face painting from Funny Faces, 10am – 4pm.
  • Regatta – Free face painting in store, 10am- 4pm.

Food and Drink Activities and Offers

  • Cookie Queen – Join in with a giant gingerbread decorating experience at the Tinners Court shop. Donation kindly requested for taking part, with proceeds going to Children’s Hospice South West.
  • Fodders Expresso Bar – Free Kids Meal consisting of Hot dog with/without onions, Ketchup and Tortilla chips, scoop of Vanilla ice cream and a drink of squash when purchasing an adult’s meal.
  • Hub Box – Kids eat free (main, side, drink, and ice cream) from kids’ menu 12pm-5pm when an adult dines too (minimum purchase of an adult burger). One child up to the age of 10 years per adult. Dine in only, booking advised.
  • Hotel Chocolat – Ice cream sampling between 11 – 4pm
  • Malletts Home Hardware Café – Tea on the Square – Under 10’s eat for £1 off the children’s menu when buying any adult meal on the day too.
  • The Cake House, Pydar Mews – Free child’s cupcake with every adult takeaway cake purchased when a child accompanies you.
  • The Old Cheese Shop – Free apple or orange juice carton for each child with each paying adult plus free colouring in whilst sitting in.
  • Zafiros – Kid’s meals off the kid’s menu for £1. Child must be under 10’s, one adult meal must be bought for each kids’ meal.

Toys and Games Activities and Offers

  • Cornwall Hospice Care, St Nicholas St – Lucky dip, colouring, and children’s toys are just £1.
  • Geek Retreat – Pikachu will be bouncing around town for photo ops. In store, all day learn demo games for the major trading card games, Pokémon, Yu-Gi-Oh, Lorcana, Magic the Gathering and One Piece.
  • Harry’s Toy Chest – Free build your own mini-figure for everyone. Cards and packs given out all day with every purchase of Pokémon.
  • Inhabit – 10% off their entire Jellycat range.
  • Malletts Home Hardware – Pokémon Trading Card Swaps Day in store, bring your cards along and get swapping, plus giveaway see above.
  • Oxfam Bookshop – Animal themed lucky dip, quiz and mask making, 10am-4pm.
  • Sharps Showroom – Bilingual story time, Poem to the Moon, read in Spanish and English at 10am and 15pm plus take part in the Magic Wardrobe display game.
  • The Works – Toy demos in-store, along with bubbles and free take-away children’s colouring packs.

Street Market and Road Closures

To make room for all the excitement on Lemon Quay, Truro Farmers Market will temporarily move to Boscawen Street. A Children’s Day Street Market hosted by Cornwall Shop Small and Truro Farmers Market will stretch across Boscawen Street, Pydar Street and High Cross, offering arts, crafts and sustainable products from local traders.

Traffic-free shopping will be in place with road closures from 5am to 7pm across the city, and from 6am to 6pm on Pydar Street.

Truro’s Lemon Street Market and Pannier Market will remain open as usual.
