Derelict Compton Castle Paddle Steamer Removed from Lemon Quay

Published On: 28 July 2025Last Updated: 28 July 2025By

The derelict paddle steamer Compton Castle has now been removed from Lemon Quay in Truro, bringing a major visual change to the heart of the city.

One Month of Removal Work Complete

The removal work took place from 25th June to 25th July 2025 and marks a key milestone in the Truro Harbour & Lemon Quay project. The long-abandoned vessel had become a familiar but deteriorating sight on the quay, and its departure now paves the way for changes aimed at revitalising the area.

The work is part of the wider transformation plans funded by the Truro Town Deal programme. The project is being delivered through a partnership between Truro Town Deal, Cornwall Harbours Authority and Cornwall Council. It includes improving access to the waterside edge at Town Quay and enhancing public space around Lemon Quay.
