ShelterBox to Host Festive Carol Concert at Truro Cathedral This December
The international disaster relief charity ShelterBox is bringing a festive evening of carols, readings, and community spirit to Truro Cathedral this December, joined once again by presenter and author Fern Britton.
The concert will take place on Thursday 4th December, from 7pm to 9pm, with doors opening at 6:15pm. Tickets are available online or via 0300 0300 500.
A Night Built on Music and Community
ShelterBox’s carol concert returns to Truro Cathedral after last year’s memorable night, where more than 700 people continued singing under the stars when a fire alarm interrupted the event.
“I’m so pleased to be part of ShelterBox’s carol concert at Truro Cathedral again this year,” says Fern Britton, who will give a special reading.
“Last time, a fire alarm gave us all an unexpected moment of magic, singing together under the night sky.”
Fern says it was a reminder of how vital shelter is during winter. “It was a reminder of how precious shelter is, especially on a cold winter night, and how many people around the world don’t have homes to return to.”
“For millions, losing shelter isn’t just a disruption, it’s life changing. This concert brings our community together to help change that.”
Music, Readings and a Special Cornish Performance
This year’s event supports the charity’s Christmas fundraising appeal and features a performance of Cornwall My Home by songwriter Harry Glasson.
Guests will also hear carols from The Suitcase Singers and Ingleheart Singers, along with a set by local sea shanty group The Clams.
The evening includes festive readings and seasonal refreshments. Attendees will also hear from ShelterBox chief executive Sanj Srikanthan on the charity’s impact and current work.
Spotlight on ShelterBox’s Work
ShelterBox provides emergency shelter and essential items, including tents, thermal blankets, solar lights and water filters, to families who have lost their homes through conflict or disaster.
The charity has supported more than three million people in around 100 countries over the last 25 years, with much of that work made possible thanks to supporters across Cornwall and the Westcountry.
ShelterBox’s Community Engagement Officer John Stanbury says the concert is a meaningful way to close the charity’s 25th year.
“Our carol concert is a really special way to draw our 25th year to a close. It’s lovely to bring people together to reflect on how far we’ve come and how far we’ve yet to go, while shining a spotlight on the resilience of the communities we support around the world.
“We rely on public donations to fund our responses and when the next disaster strikes, it’s our supporters who make sure we’re ready to go.
“Whether you come with friends, family, or solo, this festive evening promises joy, reflection, and the chance to make a real difference.”
Fern says the evening is both joyful and important. “It’s festive, fun, and for a truly important cause. ShelterBox supports families who’ve lost their homes to disaster and conflict, and this joyful evening helps make a real difference.
“This Christmas, a donation to ShelterBox, and the lifesaving shelter it provides, could be the most important gift you give.”
Supporting Global Crises
ShelterBox is currently responding to emergencies in the Philippines, the aftermath of Hurricane Melissa in the Caribbean, and a powerful earthquake in Afghanistan. Funds raised from the Truro Cathedral concert will help support people left without shelter after disaster.
