Stranded Boat Rescue in Truro: Family and Dog Rescued from Mud Bank
Yesterday afternoon, emergency services responded to reports of a vessel stuck in mud at Sunny Corner, Truro. The Falmouth Coastguard Rescue Team, alongside the Portscatho Coastguard Rescue Team and a Senior Coastal Operations Officer, were called to the scene.
Upon arrival, the Coastguard teams were directed to the stranded vessel by crew members from the Truro Community Fire Station, who were already on-site. The vessel, a small speedboat, had one adult, two children, and a dog aboard. The incident occurred following an engine failure, which left the boat unable to navigate the channel and marooned on a mud bank.
Swift Action Saves the Day
With the tide still falling and temperatures rising, the decision was made to recover the family and their pet to safety. Two specialist mud rescue technicians were deployed to reach the stranded party. The rescue team used a sled to transfer the individuals and their dog back to the slipway, where they were relieved to be back on dry land.
After ensuring the safety of the rescued family, the Coastguard teams returned to their stations for a clean-down before heading out again to conduct a safety patrol for the Falmouth Week Air Display.
Stay Safe on the Water
This incident highlights the importance of being prepared for unexpected situations when out on the water. The Coastguard reminds everyone to remain vigilant and to always dial 999 and ask for the Coastguard if they spot anyone in danger at the coast.
