Truro – Green Street Public Toilets Refurbishment Delayed Due to Material Shortage
Truro City Council has announced a delay in the reopening of the Green Street public toilets, initially scheduled for early March, now postponed to the end of April. The delay is attributed to a shortage of building materials required for the completion of the refurbishment project. This scheme, a collaborative effort between Truro City Council, Cornwall Council, and the Truro Town Deal Board, aims not only to refurbish the existing facilities but also to introduce new features. These include the city centre’s first fully accessible Changing Places toilet, a new disabled parking space, and a mural.
Significant progress has been made on the project; however, the arrival of some materials in the UK has been delayed, affecting the timeline. The public facilities cannot reopen until the comprehensive scheme, including the mural, is fully completed. The necessity to keep the hoarding in place for the duration of the works has further necessitated the postponement.
The project team is reportedly making all efforts to secure the needed materials and is confident that the remaining work will be completed, allowing the toilets to reopen by the end of April. The Council has expressed gratitude towards the local community for their patience and understanding during the refurbishment period, acknowledging the inconvenience caused by the delay. This project marks a significant improvement in public amenities for Truro, emphasising accessibility and convenience for all city visitors and residents.
