Truro Man Jailed for Seven Years for Rape

A 48-year-old man from Truro has been jailed for raping a woman he met during a night out in the city.

Conviction at Truro Crown Court

Christopher Diamond was sentenced at Truro Crown Court on Friday 8th August after being found guilty of rape following a trial. He received a prison term of seven years and must sign the Sex Offenders’ Register.

During the trial, the jury heard that on Saturday 18th May 2022, Christopher met the victim in a bar. They visited several establishments together, with Christopher buying most of her drinks.

Later that night, the victim, who said she was feeling unwell, left the city centre with Christopher to go to her address. She had told him she was concerned about her medication, and it was agreed he would walk her home.

Once inside, the victim became ill and went to the toilet. While she was either asleep or passed out, Christopher raped her.

The following morning, the victim reported the incident to police. Although Christopher denied any sexual intercourse took place, forensic evidence found semen matching his DNA profile on a swab taken from the victim.

Officer’s Statement

Officer in the case, DC Rhys Salisbury, said:

“This conviction reflects the strength of the victim, who has shown remarkable resilience throughout this traumatic process.

A sentence of seven years recognises the severity of the crime and sends a clear message that sexual violence will not be tolerated.

We will do all that we can to seek out offenders who commit such crimes and bring them to justice.

I hope today’s outcome offers some sense of closure and reassurance that the victim’s has been heard.”
