Truro Wins Gold at Southwest in Bloom Competition
Truro has scooped a prestigious gold medal in the Large Towns category at the Southwest in Bloom presentation ceremony, held in Bath on Tuesday, 8th October. The city’s efforts also secured the Portman Cup, awarded to the best in the Large Towns category.
Community Collaboration Behind the Win
The success was achieved through the hard work of multiple groups. Team Truro, which includes the Truro in Bloom committee, the Truro City Council Parks team, and Biffa, who help keep the streets clean, all played vital roles. Support also came from the Truro and Newham BID teams, who fund many of the floral displays, and the local traders and businesses involved in planting schemes. A special thanks was given to the community volunteers, who dedicate their time to making Truro a more vibrant place to live, work, and visit.
Environmental Efforts Take Centre Stage
This year’s judges did not just focus on the city’s floral displays; they also looked at its environmental efforts. Truro impressed with pollinator beds planted in key areas, vegetable beds, wildlife meadows, and installations like log piles, insect hotels, and bird and bat boxes. These initiatives are designed to protect wildlife while creating beautiful green spaces for residents and visitors.
Residents Play a Crucial Role
The residents of Truro also contributed to this achievement by supporting the work of Truro City Council through their annual precept and helping reduce litter in the city. The collective efforts from across the community have helped ensure Truro stands out in this year’s competition.
