Local Cake Designer’s Work Shown on BBC2 Over Christmas

A bespoke illusion cake created by a South East Cornwall cake designer featured on BBC2 over the Christmas period, after being commissioned for a festive television special filmed across Devon and Cornwall.

National TV moment for Cornish cake designer

One of the illusion cakes designed by Niki Lowe was commissioned by the production team behind the Gone Fishing Christmas Special, which aired on BBC2 over Christmas.

The cake was created as part of a light hearted prank on one of the presenters. Designed to look like a traditional roast turkey dinner, the illusion cake included stuffing balls, roast potatoes, peas, carrots and pigs in blankets. Every element was handmade from icing and fully edible.

The programme was filmed across Devon and Cornwall, with the cake delivered to Mousehole for the day of filming.

Speaking about the experience, Niki said:

“Having my work featured on a BBC2 programme over the Christmas period was incredibly special. It felt even more meaningful knowing the programme was filmed in Devon and Cornwall — I delivered the cake to Mousehole for the day of filming. As a small, independent cake designer based in South East Cornwall, it was a real pinch-me moment to see my work shown on national television and to represent local creative businesses on such a big platform.”
