Police move to shut down antisocial behaviour at Belmont Court

A Wadebridge property linked to ongoing antisocial behaviour has been placed under a strict partial closure order, making it a criminal offence for anyone other than the two named residents to enter.

The flat, located in Belmont Court, was served with a three-month partial closure order at Bodmin Magistrates Court on Tuesday 17th June. The order was granted under Section 80 of the Anti-Social Behaviour, Crime & Policing Act and comes after police received repeated reports from concerned neighbours.

Persistent issues prompt police action

Local residents reported regular large gatherings at the address, including young people under 18, causing persistent disruption. Complaints included significant noise disturbances, suspected drug use, and antisocial incidents such as visitors knocking on windows of other homes and throwing water balloons at nearby properties.

Inspector Adam Stonehill, who leads the Wadebridge neighbourhood policing team, said:
“No one should be made to feel unsafe, worried or intimidated in the area they live in.”

“This property became a hive of ASB activity, so it was important that we took action to stop this behaviour from having a negative impact on the livelihoods of residents, including those with young families.”

Temporary order aims to restore peace

The order means anyone apart from the two named tenants found inside the property could face criminal prosecution.

Insp Stonehill added:
“Whilst this is only a temporary order, the aim is that this will provide relief for residents by preventing ASB from happening at the address.”

“We’ll continue to work closely within the community to make sure the order is being followed, while engaging with the tenants to prevent further ASB from happening in the future.”

“I’d also like to say thank you to those who reported this issue to us – I hope this shows that we are listening and that we do take your reports seriously.”

Working together to tackle ASB

The partial closure order was secured by the Wadebridge neighbourhood team in collaboration with the Devon & Cornwall Police legal team and the local council’s ASB team.

Residents experiencing similar issues are encouraged to report them via the Devon & Cornwall Police website. In an emergency or if a crime is in progress, call 999.
