Cornwall Council Seeks Public Feedback on Reducing Waste and Increasing Recycling

Published On: 14 October 2024Last Updated: 14 October 2024By

Cornwall Council is inviting residents to share their views on how Cornwall can reduce waste and increase recycling over the next decade.

As the council aims to meet national targets and comply with new legislation, changes to waste services are expected in the coming years. The current roll-out of weekly food waste collections alongside fortnightly rubbish and recycling collections will continue as planned across Cornwall, and this has already led to a rise in recycling rates. However, further adjustments will be necessary to meet the government’s target of reusing, recycling, or composting 65% of household waste by 2035.

Have Your Say on Waste and Recycling

The council is now seeking feedback on its existing waste services, including household collections, waste and recycling centres, and street cleansing. The responses provided by residents will help shape Cornwall’s updated Waste Strategy, ensuring it aligns with both local needs and national requirements.

Councillor Carol Mould, portfolio holder for neighbourhoods, expressed gratitude to residents for embracing the new collection services and emphasised the importance of continuing efforts to reduce environmental impact.

How to Participate

The survey launched today on Let’s Talk Cornwall (October 14th) and will be open for six weeks. Residents can participate by filling out the survey online here. For those without internet access, a paper copy can be ordered by calling 0300 1234 141.

This consultation is a vital part of Cornwall Council’s efforts to work with the community in reducing waste and promoting sustainable practices.
