02/02/2026 – Weather in Cornwall – Yellow Weather Warning For Rain

Published On: 2 February 2026Last Updated: 2 February 2026By

Flooding Risk as Yellow Rain Warning Issued for Today and Tonight

The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning for rain, in place from 12:00 on Monday 2nd February until 09:00 on Tuesday 3rd February.

Further rainfall through Monday and into Tuesday could lead to some flooding and disruption in places.

What to Expect

There is a small chance that homes and businesses could be flooded, with possible damage to some buildings. Fast flowing or deep floodwater may pose a danger to life in some areas.

Where flooding occurs, there is a slight chance of delays or cancellations to train and bus services. Driving conditions could also be affected, with spray, flooding and the possibility of some road closures.

Some communities may become cut off by flooded roads, and there is also a slight chance of power cuts and the loss of other services to homes and businesses.

Rainfall and Ground Conditions

While there is some uncertainty, outbreaks of rain may become persistent on Monday, particularly later in the day and overnight. The rain is expected to gradually ease and clear into Tuesday.

Rainfall totals of 10 to 20mm are possible across many areas, with 30 to 50mm possible over Dartmoor. With the ground already saturated following recent rain, there is a chance this could lead to flooding and disruption.

Advice from the Met Office

People are advised to check whether their property could be at risk of flooding and, if so, consider preparing a flood plan and an emergency flood kit.

Those travelling are encouraged to check road conditions, bus timetables and train services, and to amend travel plans if needed.

Preparing for potential power cuts can also help. This includes having torches, batteries, a mobile phone power pack and other essential items ready in advance.

Weather warnings can change quickly, and the Met Office recommends staying up to date with the latest local weather forecasts.

Why the Warning Is Yellow

The yellow warning has been issued because there is a very low likelihood but a medium potential impact from the expected weather.

Heavy Rain and Gales Set to Batter the South West This Week

People across the South West of England can expect an unsettled week of weather, with further spells of rain and strong winds forecast through to Friday.

Monday: Rain and Strong Winds Move In

Monday 2nd February begins with a murky start in the east, while brighter conditions develop in the west as fog and ice patches clear. However, this improvement will be short lived. Cloud will thicken from the south west as a band of rain pushes northwards, bringing heavy downpours and strong winds. Temperatures are expected to reach a maximum of 9°C.

Wet and Windy Overnight

Rain will continue through Monday night, with widespread and often heavy downpours, particularly across Cornwall and Devon. It will remain windy, with coastal gales possible in the west. Overnight temperatures will stay near average, with a minimum of around 5°C.

Tuesday: Brighter Spells Later

Tuesday is expected to start dull and damp as the rain band continues to move north. During the afternoon, brighter and drier spells should emerge from the south, although these will be followed by showers. Winds are forecast to ease, with temperatures rising slightly to a maximum of 10°C.

Midweek Improvement Before More Rain

Wednesday is forecast to be a brighter and drier day, although low cloud may form overnight. The improvement will be brief, with unsettled conditions returning from Thursday as further bands of rain move through. It will remain breezy at times, with conditions turning chillier towards the end of the week.

Residents are advised to keep an eye on the changing conditions as the unsettled weather continues across the region.
