03/09/2025 – Weather in Cornwall – Yellow Weather Warning For Rain

Published On: 3 September 2025Last Updated: 3 September 2025By

A yellow weather warning has been issued by the Met Office for heavy rain across Cornwall, in place from 00:00 to 14:00 today, Wednesday 3rd September 2025.

The Met Office warns that the conditions could cause travel disruption and flooding in places.

What to Expect

According to the warning, the impacts could include:

  • Flooding of a few homes and businesses

  • Some interruption to power supplies and other services

  • Spray and flooding on roads, probably making journey times longer

  • Bus and train services likely affected, with delays expected

The Met Office explained:

“Heavy rain may cause travel disruption and flooding in places.”

Weather Details

Heavy rain and strong winds are forecast to move northeast through the first part of the day. These will be followed by heavy showers and some thunderstorms, which should become more isolated through the afternoon.

Rainfall totals are expected to be widely 20 to 30 mm, though some areas could see 40 to 60 mm within 6 to 9 hours.

Coastal gales are also likely for a time, particularly along English Channel coasts.

Safety Advice

The Met Office advises travellers and residents to take precautions.

  • “Give yourself the best chance of avoiding delays by checking road conditions if driving, or bus and train timetables, amending your travel plans if necessary.”

  • “Check if your property could be at risk of flooding. If so, consider preparing a flood plan and an emergency flood kit.”

  • “Be prepared for weather warnings to change quickly: when a weather warning is issued, the Met Office recommends staying up to date with the weather forecast in your area.”

Why Yellow?

The Met Office explained the warning is yellow because it has a medium likelihood but a low impact overall.
