Heavy Rain and Coastal Gales Set to Hit the South West This Week

A mixed and unsettled spell of weather is forecast for the South West of England over the coming days, with rain, strong winds and only brief brighter spells expected.

Wednesday 4 February

The day starts off gloomy in the east as low cloud gradually lifts through the morning. Conditions are brighter in the west, although showers continue to move in. As the afternoon goes on, brighter spells are expected to develop across the region, with showers slowly fading away.

It will feel breezy along the coasts. The maximum temperature today is expected to reach around 10°C.

Tonight

Cloud will thicken from the south overnight as a band of rain moves northwards. This is likely to bring heavy downpours and strengthening winds. Gales are possible over hills and along the coasts of Cornwall and Devon.

Temperatures overnight are expected to fall to a minimum of around 6°C.

Thursday

Thursday begins damp and dull, with rain continuing to clear northwards through the morning. Heavy showers are expected to follow, with further rain arriving later in the day. Winds are forecast to ease as the day goes on.

The maximum temperature is again expected to be around 10°C.

Outlook for Friday to Sunday

The end of the week looks rather unsettled across South West England. Outbreaks of heavy showers and longer spells of rain are forecast to continue, although there is a chance of brief brighter spells over the weekend. It will remain breezy at times.
