05/02/2026 – Weather in Cornwall – Yellow Weather Warning For Rain
Heavy Rain Warning Today: Flooding and Travel Delays Possible
A yellow weather warning for rain is in place today, Thursday 5th February 2026, from 05:00 until 23:59.
Periods of rain and heavy showers are likely to cause surface water flooding in places, with impacts expected on travel and services.
What to Expect Today
Spray and flooding on roads are likely, which could make journey times longer. Bus and train services may also be affected, with delays possible. There is a chance of brief interruptions to power supplies and other services, and flooding of a few homes and businesses is possible.
Why the Rain Could Cause Problems
Rain arriving from the south overnight Wednesday into Thursday is expected to turn heavy and persistent in places during Thursday morning. After a brief respite for many, with some heavy showers still around, a further area of organised and at times heavy rain is likely to arrive from the south later, affecting the same area again.
By the end of Thursday, 10 to 20mm of rain is likely to have fallen fairly widely, with a few spots seeing more than 30mm. With ground conditions already widely saturated, some low impact surface water flooding is probable. Difficult driving conditions are expected in places due to spray, flowing water or flooded roads.
What You Can Do
People are advised to check whether their property could be at risk of flooding and, if so, consider preparing a flood plan and an emergency flood kit.
Those travelling should give themselves the best chance of avoiding delays by checking road conditions if driving, or bus and train timetables, and amending travel plans if necessary.
It is also advised to be prepared for possible power cuts by gathering torches and batteries, a mobile phone power pack and other essential items.
The Met Office advises staying up to date with local forecasts, as weather warnings can change quickly. The yellow warning reflects a medium likelihood and a low impact.
Heavy Rain on the Way as Unsettled Weather Grips the South West

Winds are expected to ease as the day goes on. The maximum temperature is forecast to reach 11°C.
Tonight
Conditions remain unsettled through the evening and overnight, with further bouts of rain expected. Some of this rain could be heavy, particularly over higher ground. There may be some drier spells developing later in the west.

Friday 6th February
Some bright spells are expected to extend eastwards on Friday, although it will generally remain unsettled. Further showery outbreaks of rain are forecast, with some turning heavy at times.
Temperatures are expected to stay mild, reaching around 11°C, with breezy conditions continuing in places.
