Heavy Rain and Flood Risk Ahead as Unsettled Week Looms
People across the South West of England can expect a mixed but increasingly wet spell of weather from today, Sunday 8th February, through to Thursday 12th February, with heavy rain and a risk of flooding later in the week.
Showers and Sunny Spells Today
Any mist or fog this morning is expected to clear quickly. Showers will then develop through the day, becoming heavy at times, especially in western areas later on. These showers should be less widespread than in recent days elsewhere. Winds will be lighter than on Saturday and it will feel mild, with maximum temperatures reaching around 11°C.
Rain Possible Overnight
Tonight will see scattered heavy showers during the evening, with some merging into longer spells of rain overnight. Where skies clear, it may turn a little chilly, but temperatures are expected to remain frost free. The minimum temperature is forecast to be around 6°C.
Monday Brings Persistent Rain
Monday is set to be cloudy, with periods of rain moving through. The heaviest and most persistent rain is expected in western areas, although there may be drier spells at times and the odd brighter moment. Brisk southeasterly winds are forecast, with mild conditions continuing and highs of around 11°C.
Wet and Unsettled Outlook
From Tuesday through to Thursday, the weather is expected to remain unsettled and often wet. Further rain or showers are forecast, with some heavy and prolonged spells. This brings the risk of further flooding in some places. Conditions will be breezy at times, while temperatures stay rather mild.
People are advised to keep an eye on local conditions as the week progresses.
