25/12/2025 – Weather in Cornwall – Yellow Weather Warning For Wind
A yellow weather warning for wind has been issued by the Met Office, covering Christmas Day today, Thursday 25th December 2025.
The warning is in place from 4am through to 11.59pm and highlights the risk of disruption from strong and gusty east to northeasterly winds.
What to expect today
The Met Office says some delays to public transport are possible, with high sided vehicles likely to face delays on exposed routes and bridges.
There is also a chance of short term power cuts and disruption to other services.
Coastal areas are expected to be particularly affected, with some coastal routes, sea fronts and coastal communities likely to see spray and or large waves.
How strong will the winds be?
Winds are expected to become particularly strong during Christmas Day, with peak gusts of around 45 to 55mph in many areas.
Along some exposed coasts and to the west of prominent hills, gusts could reach between 55 and 65mph.
The Met Office says the more unusual wind direction increases the risk of disruption to transport and power supplies, with large waves adding an extra hazard along some coasts.
Advice for travelling and coastal safety
People planning to travel are advised to check road conditions if driving and bus timetables if using public transport, and to amend plans where necessary.
The Met Office also advises preparing in case of power cuts by gathering torches and batteries, a mobile phone power pack and other essential items in advance.
Those visiting the coast are urged to stay aware of large waves. Even from the shore, breaking waves can sweep people off their feet and out to sea. Extra care is advised near cliffs, with people encouraged to know their route and keep dogs on a lead.
In an emergency, people should call 999 and ask for the Coastguard.
Why the warning is yellow
The Met Office says the warning has a medium likelihood and a low impact, but stresses that weather warnings can change quickly.
People are advised to stay up to date with the latest forecast for their area throughout the day.
