Icy Roads Tonight Could Catch You Out by Morning

A yellow weather warning for ice has been issued by the Met Office, covering the period from 10pm on Sunday 1st February to 9am on Monday 2nd February 2026.

What to expect overnight

Icy patches may form on untreated surfaces during Sunday night into Monday morning. This could lead to some injuries from slips and falls, with icy patches likely on some untreated roads, pavements and cycle paths.

The Met Office says the risk comes after recent rain, with wet surfaces and temperatures falling close to or below freezing. The amount of cloud cover is uncertain, which will affect how low temperatures drop and where ice is able to form. A few fog patches may also add to the hazard.

Advice for getting around

People are advised to take extra care when travelling.

Leaving the house at least five minutes earlier than normal can help reduce the risk of accidents, slips and falls by avoiding the need to rush.

Those travelling on foot are encouraged to use pavements along main roads, which are more likely to have been treated. Cyclists are similarly advised to stick to main roads where possible.

Drivers are advised to check road conditions before setting off, while those using public transport should check bus and train timetables and adjust travel plans if needed.

Stay up to date

The Met Office also advises people to stay up to date with the weather forecast, as warnings can change.

The yellow warning reflects a medium likelihood of icy conditions with a low overall impact.
