Discover the Secrets of Cornwall’s Seals with Sue Sayer’s Free Talk
In an upcoming event that promises to shed light on the fascinating world of Cornwall’s native seals, the Cornwall Seal Group Research Trust (CSGRT) invites the public to a free educational talk.
Scheduled for Tuesday, 14th May at 18:00, this online Zoom event titled ‘7 Wonders, 7 Stories and 7 Ways to Help’ is designed to inspire and inform attendees about the remarkable life of seals.
A Deep Dive into Seal Life
Led by Sue Sayer, the founder and director of the Seal Research Trust, the talk aims to unravel the mysteries of these charismatic marine mammals. Sue, a Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE), is an internationally acclaimed researcher and author with a passion for marine wildlife. With the establishment of the Trust in 2000, she has been at the forefront of pioneering conservation efforts through citizen science.
The evening promises to be a journey through the captivating world of seals, highlighting their incredible senses, unique abilities, and the challenges they face. Attendees will be treated to celebrity seal stories, insights into their behaviour such as ‘bananaing’, the importance of their tears, their extraordinary reflexes, adaptations for diving, pup growth, and the crucial moult period that leaves them vulnerable and in need of human understanding and support.
A Philosophy of Coexistence
The Seal Research Trust’s work is deeply rooted in the Ecozoic philosophy, which advocates for a harmonious coexistence between humans and the sea. Sue’s approach to conservation is characterised by a belief in the individuality of each seal, noting that no two are alike in appearance, personality, habits, or migratory paths around the Celtic Sea.
Join the Conservation Conversation
This event is not just an opportunity to learn about seals but also a call to action, offering practical ways in which individuals can contribute to the welfare of these marine inhabitants. The talk underscores the Trust’s commitment to ‘sharing our seas successfully’ and encourages community involvement in the preservation of marine life.
To secure a place at this enlightening online Zoom talk, interested individuals are encouraged to reach out via email to seals@cornwallsealgroup.co.uk. The Cornwall Seal Group Research Trust extends a warm invitation to water users and wildlife enthusiasts alike to join Sue Sayer for an evening of discovery and inspiration, deepening the public’s connection with Cornwall’s seal population.
