Help Hedgehogs This Autumn: Simple Steps to Support Our Spiky Friends

Published On: 13 November 2024Last Updated: 13 November 2024By

As the wet autumn weather sets in, Prickles and Paws Hedgehog Rescue shares ways for the community to help hedgehogs gather the resources they need to build their winter nests.

Offer Dry Nesting Material

With limited dry nesting material available due to the recent rain, Prickles and Paws suggests an easy way to make a difference. Simply place dry nesting material, such as leaves or straw, in a plant pot laid on its side. This setup allows hedgehogs to take what they need for their nests.

Hedgehogs are known to build multiple nest sites within their home range, gathering nesting materials in their mouths to carry back to each location. Supporting this natural behaviour can make it easier for hedgehogs to stay warm and safe over the colder months.
