In an exciting turn of events for the rugby community, the Cornish Pirates have officially announced that their talented wing/full-back, Frankie Nowell, will be leaving the UK shores for Australia.

At just 21 years of age, Frankie, who has made a name for himself both at Sandy Park with Exeter Chiefs and with the Pirates, is poised to embark on a new journey in the prestigious Shute Shield competition starting in April.

A Promising Career on the Move

Frankie’s rugby journey is one of dedication, skill, and rapid advancement. Having started his career within the Exeter Chiefs Academy, his progression into the ranks at Sandy Park ahead of the 2020/21 season marked him as a player to watch. Moreover, Frankie’s connection to rugby excellence runs in the family, as he is the brother of former ‘Pirate’ and ‘Chief’, Jack Nowell. Educated at Mounts Bay Academy and Truro College, Frankie’s roots are deeply embedded in Cornish soil, making his departure a poignant moment for the local rugby community.

Unwavering Commitment and Growth

Throughout his time with the Cornish Pirates and his dual registration with Exeter Chiefs, Frankie’s contribution on the field has been substantial. Alan Paver, the joint head coach of the Cornish Pirates, paid tribute to Frankie’s character and development: “First and foremost, Frankie is loved by everyone here because of his attitude. He is a tough character who puts his body on the line, and I have seen a massive growth in his game this year.”

Frankie’s commitment to the sport is evident through his tireless work ethic, having made nine appearances for the Pirates and also featuring for Redruth, always giving his all. His ability to push beyond 100% on the field has not only endeared him to teammates and coaches alike but has also shown his potential to shine on international stages.

A Bright Future Down Under

The move to Australia represents not just a new chapter in Frankie’s professional career but also an opportunity for personal growth and a fresh perspective on rugby. The Shute Shield, renowned for its competitive edge and high standards, will no doubt provide Frankie with challenging and enriching experiences. Alan Paver’s belief in Frankie’s future success is a sentiment echoed by many: “We wish him all the best in Australia, where he will get a different perspective on rugby, enjoy himself, and learn along the way. It will be great for him, and I do believe we will hear of Frankie again.”

As Frankie Nowell heads to ‘Oz’ to compete in the Shute Shield, his journey from a promising player at Sandy Park to an international talent in Australia continues to unfold. With the support of his coaches, teammates, and fans back home, Frankie’s rugby career is set to reach new heights on the global stage.
