Cornwall Residents Urged to Share Views on Crime and Antisocial Behaviour

Published On: 15 July 2024Last Updated: 15 July 2024By

Residents of Cornwall are being called upon to voice their opinions on crime and antisocial behaviour within their communities.

Safer Cornwall, the local community safety partnership, has launched its ‘Have Your Say’ survey, available on the Let’s Talk Cornwall website until September 1st.

Understanding Community Concerns

Safer Cornwall, a coalition of organisations dedicated to ensuring safety and security for everyone in Cornwall, is seeking feedback from residents. The survey aims to gather crucial information that will shape the Community Safety Partnership Plan, addressing the most pressing issues identified by the public.

Simon Mould, chair of Safer Cornwall, emphasised the importance of community input: “As chair of Safer Cornwall, I know that the views of residents are vital in shaping our efforts to prevent and reduce crime and antisocial behaviour, tackle problem use of drugs and alcohol and reduce re-offending. By telling us what is happening in your local area and what you think we can do about it, we can work out the best solutions together to ensure that Cornwall is a safe place for all.”

Annual Insights for Evolving Challenges

The survey is conducted annually, providing a year-on-year comparison of local issues. This approach helps Safer Cornwall understand the evolving challenges faced by communities and measure the effectiveness of their strategies over time. Previous survey results are accessible on the Let’s Talk Cornwall website, offering transparency and insight into how resident feedback has shaped past initiatives.

A Call to Action from Cornwall Council

Cllr Carol Mould, cabinet member for neighbourhoods at Cornwall Council, highlighted the survey’s ease and importance: “The survey only takes about 10 minutes and the more people who complete it, the more comprehensive our understanding will be of the key issues facing our communities and how to tackle them. It is one of the council’s priorities to create and maintain vibrant, safe, and supportive communities where people help each other to live well and this survey will help arm us with the knowledge to achieve this.”

How to Participate

Residents can participate in the survey by visiting Let’s Talk Cornwall. The feedback collected will play a critical role in developing strategies to enhance safety and wellbeing across Cornwall.

Safer Cornwall comprises five responsible authorities: Cornwall Council, Cornwall Fire and Rescue Service, Devon and Cornwall Police, NHS Cornwall and Isles of Scilly, and the Probation Service. These organisations, along with various other partners, work collaboratively to reduce and prevent crime and improve community safety.
