Are Young Drivers at Risk? Launceston Students Get Eye-Opening Road Safety Lesson
Launceston College students take part in Learn2Live presentation
Year 12 students from Launceston College, part of Athena Learning Trust, have been given a vital road safety education session through Learn2Live, a programme designed to highlight the dangers young drivers face.
The event was delivered by a range of experts, including Local Authority Road Safety Teams, Devon and Somerset Fire & Rescue Service, Devon and Cornwall Police, South West Ambulance, and Devon Air Ambulance. It aimed to educate students aged 16-19—one of the highest-risk groups for road traffic collisions—on the real-life consequences of dangerous driving.
Hard-Hitting Lessons on Road Safety
The presentation provided students with crucial insights into how their actions behind the wheel can impact their safety and the safety of others. Through real-world examples and expert guidance, students were encouraged to consider the importance of responsible driving.
Matthew Thompson, Principal at Launceston College, said:
“We are always looking for opportunities to provide our students with real-life learning experiences that enhance their understanding of important issues. The Learn2Live presentation was an eye-opening experience for our Year 12 students and a crucial reminder of the importance of safe driving. We’re grateful to the emergency services and partners who made this event possible.”
A Commitment to Student Safety
The event forms part of a wider effort to ensure young drivers are better prepared for the challenges of the road. Launceston College continues to support initiatives that prioritise student safety and equip them with essential life skills.
Launceston College is rated Good by Ofsted across multiple areas, including Quality of Education, Behaviour and Attitudes, and Sixth Form Provision. Inspectors noted that:
