Community Drop-In Session Announced for Camborne Renew Scheme on 14th October
Drop-in session set for 14th October
Residents and businesses are being invited to a community drop-in session at the Donald Thomas Centre, Camborne, on Tuesday 14th October between 10 am and 6.30 pm. The event will showcase the final designs and traffic management plans for the Camborne Town Deal funded Renew scheme, which is now moving into the construction phase.
What the Renew scheme will deliver
The scheme, part of the wider Camborne Town Deal Transport Project, is designed to enhance the appearance of Camborne town centre, improve access for pedestrians and cyclists, and encourage people to spend more time in the town, supporting the local economy.
Following earlier feedback from residents and businesses, the original plans were revised. After a positive response during the statutory consultation earlier this year, and further discussions with Camborne Town Council and other stakeholders, the project is now set to begin construction in early November.
The final design focuses on environmental improvements and accessibility, including:
-
New seating and greenery
-
Better pedestrian crossings along Trelowarren Street
-
A new zebra crossing at Fore Street
-
Extending free on-street parking at the top of Trelowarren Street from 30 minutes to an hour
-
Repairs to paving in Commercial Square
-
Enhanced lighting and CCTV
-
Secure cycle parking
Traffic flow changes that were previously proposed were removed following consultation in spring 2023.
While the main focus is on Trelowarren Street and Commercial Square, adjoining streets are also set to benefit from enhancements to complement the overall scheme.
Keeping disruption to a minimum
Information on traffic management arrangements during the works will also be available at the session. Representatives from Cormac and the Camborne Town Deal Transport Project team will be present throughout the day to answer questions.
The project team has confirmed they will pause works at the end of November so that festive events in the town can go ahead without disruption. Plans are also in place to accommodate Trevithick Day.
Val Dalley, Chair of Camborne Town Deal, said:
“I encourage local and residents and businesses to go along to the community drop-in session and look at the final designs. A great deal of work has gone into the plans following previous consultations and I am confident that the result will be a much improved shopping experience for residents.”
Linked projects: Camborne Renew and LifeCycle
The Camborne Renew and Camborne LifeCycle schemes form part of the Camborne Town Deal Transport Project, one of 10 Town Deal funded projects focused on regenerating the heart of the town.
Significant progress has already been made on the LifeCycle scheme, which will deliver 3.7km of enhanced walking and cycling routes to connect key sites and encourage fewer car journeys. The route includes eight locations, stretching from the town centre along the former Roskear tramway with links to Park Gerry and the Red River Trail.
