Plaque Presented to Penlee Coxswain Patch Harvey Honouring 2022 Rescue
A new plaque has been presented to Penlee Lifeboat coxswain Patch Harvey in recognition of his heroic rescue of a yacht on 31st October 2022, an operation that earned him the RNLI Silver Medal for gallantry after battling hurricane conditions.
Remembering a Night of Bravery
The plaque was created and presented by Neville Greenhalgh, who wanted to commemorate the extraordinary rescue. The coxswain’s RNLI volunteer crew were each awarded Silver Medal Gallantry Certificates for their part in the operation.
Neville, who comes from Rochdale, has previously made two other plaques for the Penlee Lifeboat Station — one depicting the Solomon Browne and another celebrating the station’s history.
Friendship and Recognition
Neville said: “It seemed like a good idea to commemorate the rescue particularly as the presentation was made by HRH The Princess Royal at Buckingham Palace, a photograph of which appears on the plaque.”
He and Patch have known each other for some time and have become friends, despite living many miles apart.
Neville is now working on another plaque to remember the actions of the RNLI volunteers during the events of that stormy night in October 2022.
