Looe RNLI has launched a recruitment drive for new inshore lifeboat crew and shore crew, offering a chance to support lifesaving work along the coastline.

Roles Now Open

The station, re established in 1992, provides search and rescue cover across Looe Bay from Rame Head in the east to Lansallos in the west. The volunteer team operates two inshore lifeboats, an Atlantic 85 and a D Class, launched using a Talus MB4 H semi submersible tractor and an Agri tractor.

The RNLI is looking for people to join as inshore lifeboat crew or shore crew. Lifeboat crew members take part in launches and rescues, while shore crew support operations on land by helping prepare the lifeboats, assisting with launch and recovery, and getting everything cleaned down and ready for service after a shout or training exercise.

No Experience Needed

According to the details provided, being a lifeboat crew member is described as one of the most exciting and fulfilling volunteer roles available. It is also an opportunity to learn new skills, gain experience and meet new people. No previous nautical experience is required, as all volunteers complete the RNLI’s full training programme.

The RNLI highlights that it is an inclusive organisation and provides equipment, training, guidance and support.

Who Can Apply?

Because the Looe crew aims to launch within 10 minutes of pagers sounding, volunteers need to live or work close to the station. There is also a particular need for people who are available during the day. All applicants must be over 18.

A full description of lifeboat crew roles and eligibility criteria can be found on the RNLI’s website through the link for lifeboat station volunteers.

Those interested in applying for inshore lifeboat crew can visit the RNLI volunteering page for the ILB crew role. Anyone considering a shore based role can visit the RNLI page for shore crew.

Apply Before 28th December 2025

The closing date for applications is 28th December 2025.
