Bodmin Railway is getting ready for a packed Christmas season, bringing steam, sparkle and festive fun to Cornwall. From visits with Father Christmas to cosy dining trips and markets on the platform, there’s something for all ages this year. Full details and booking are available at Bodmin Railway.

Santa by Steam

Weekends in December, including 22nd to 24th December, will see families step aboard a full-size heritage steam train for the popular Santa by Steam journeys. Children receive a gift during the trip in the railway’s traditionally decorated carriages.

For those who prefer a calmer setting, the Quiet Santa Train runs on 7th and 21st December at 10.00 am. The experience offers soft lighting, no loud whistles, reduced capacity and a more relaxed atmosphere.

Christmas Murder Mystery Trains

The Christmas Murder Mystery Trains are back, created in partnership with the southwest’s Murder by Appointment. Families, friends and colleagues can test their detective skills aboard a vintage carriage as they work out who committed the fictional crime before the train returns to the station.

Christmas Markets

Bodmin Railway will host Christmas Markets on 25th November and 16th December. Visitors can browse festive gifts and local crafts while enjoying silver band carols. The heritage steam train provides the backdrop along with mulled wine or cider on the decorated platform.

Mulled Wine Express

On 19th December, the Mulled Wine Express offers a 50 minute steam journey through the Cornish countryside with mince pies and mulled wine. Santa will not be on this trip as he will be busy in his workshop, but the railway says it will still be a festive ride.

Christmas Dining Trains

Guests wanting a Christmas meal with a difference can choose from two dining events. A 2 course lunch will be served on 10th December and a 3 course evening supper on 18th December. All food is freshly prepared by Kernow Street Kitchen and served in the railway’s traditional compartments or carriages during a gentle journey along the historic line.

Advance booking is recommended as many events sell out quickly. More information and booking can be found at Bodmin Railway
