Christmas in Camborne officially launched with town lights switch on
Camborne marked the start of the festive season with a packed Christmas lights switch on that drew hundreds to the town centre.
A Festive Afternoon in Camborne
Santa arrived in a vintage car, festive elves wandered around on stilts and shop windows were filled with bright displays. The afternoon was filled with entertainment from CD Kids, Keur Arwodha Kemeneth and Makasong, Holman’s Choir, TR14ers, The Goonbillys, The Ukuhayles and the Redruth Carol Choir.
The countdown came to life when local schoolgirl Charlotte stepped onto the stage and pressed the red button to light up the town.
Months of Planning Behind the Scenes
The event was organised by BID Camborne with financial support from Camborne Town Council.
“We chose our Christmas tree at Tregothnan estate in March this year and walked around the town in June with Matt, from Christmas lights supplier Lamps and Tubes, and Abbie, Sam and Jamie from the RG Kellow installation team to decide how it would all look,” said Anna Pascoe, BID Project Manager.
Anna added: “We’re indebted to everyone who has helped us along the way including our sponsors R G Kellow, Macsalvors Plant Hire, Speedy Hire, Arcadia Tree Care, A R Newport Transport, Cormac and Apollo Bingo.
“It was wonderful to welcome Father Christmas and his two cheeky elves Cam and Bronne to the festivities. Santa swapped his sleigh for a vintage car and then greeted children in the Kehelland Trust shop a big thank you to him for making the time in his very busy schedule.
“Charlotte was given the honour of pushing the big red button and lighting up Camborne after being such an enthusiastic participant in our New Ideas for New Connexion Street art project. We’ve all been very impressed by her creativity, and she did a brilliant job on stage.”
