09/12/2025 – Weather in Cornwall – Yellow Weather Warning For Wind

Published On: 9 December 2025Last Updated: 9 December 2025By

A yellow weather warning for wind is in place from 22:00 on Monday 8th December through to 16:00 today, with the Met Office advising the public to expect strong and gusty conditions that could cause disruption.

What to Expect

According to the warning, peak gusts of 40 to 50 mph are expected in many areas, with the potential for 60 to 70 mph along exposed coasts and over or to the north of high ground. There is also a small chance of gusts above 70 mph over northwest Wales.

The Met Office says some delays to road, rail, air and ferry transport are likely. Bus and train journeys may take longer, and high sided vehicles could face delays on exposed routes and bridges. There is also a chance of short term loss of power and other services. Coastal routes, sea fronts and coastal communities may be affected by spray or large waves.

Staying Safe in the Wind

People are advised to give themselves the best chance of avoiding delays by checking road conditions or public transport timetables and adjusting travel plans if needed.

Preparing for possible power cuts can also help. The guidance recommends gathering torches and batteries, a mobile phone power pack and other essential items.

Anyone heading to the coast is urged to be cautious during stormy weather. Large waves can sweep people off their feet, even from the shore. The advice is to take care when walking near cliffs, know your route and keep dogs on a lead. In an emergency, call 999 and ask for the Coastguard.

The Met Office also reminds the public that weather warnings can change quickly, so staying up to date with the latest forecast is important.

Why This Warning Is Yellow

The warning carries a medium likelihood and a low impact, according to the Met Office.
