Beach Guardian Confirms New Dune and Woodland Work for January 2026
A long running beach conservation activity involving donated Christmas trees is changing direction in January 2026, with a new focus on dune restoration and woodland care in north Cornwall.
A Change After Six Years of Beach Work
Beach Guardian has confirmed it will not be taking Christmas trees to local beaches this year, following six successful years of using them to support dune restoration.
The buried trees from previous years will fully break down, allowing marram grass to take over and restore the dunes naturally.
Instead, a January 2026 marram grass transplanting event will take place at Constantine Bay, aimed at reinforcing the existing dune system and helping return the environment to its former condition.
The group has thanked everyone who helped drag Christmas trees across the beaches in previous years, saying the work has been a major success.
Christmas Trees Still Needed in January 2026
Although beach burials are stopping, donated Christmas trees will still be collected in January 2026 at Trevisker Garden Centre.
The collection point is at Trevisker Garden Centre, Trevisker Farm, Padstow PL28 8LD.
These trees will be used to support conservation work at Trevisker Community Meadow, where thousands of saplings have already been planted to help restore areas of lost woodland in Cornwall.
Big Mulching Task Planned for May
Beach Guardian says it now faces a large maintenance job at the meadow, with all of the young trees needing to be mulched.
The donated Christmas trees will be chipped in preparation, and in May the group hopes to have as many people as possible helping to clear grass and mulch the trees.
The message was signed off with a simple note of thanks to everyone involved, ending with “Thanks Very Mulch!”.
