35 Students Get Rare Access to Live Newquay Build

University group visits Hedhas Dowr site

Construction students from the University of Plymouth stepped out of the classroom and onto a live development site in Newquay after being invited to visit Hedhas Dowr by Cornish developer Treveth.

The visit saw 35 first year construction undergraduates explore the active site, where they were able to observe building techniques currently being used, gain insight into the day to day coordination of a development project and ask questions about the challenges and opportunities involved in modern construction.

The visit forms part of Treveth’s commitment to supporting education and skills development within the construction industry, by helping bridge the gap between academic learning and real world delivery.

Project team share expertise

Students were welcomed by members of the project team, including representatives from Poltair Construction, the site’s contractor, and Kendall Kingscott, acting as Employer’s Agent.

96 new homes in Newquay

Hedhas Dowr is Treveth’s latest Newquay development and will comprise 96 new homes. The scheme will include a mix of one, two, three and four bedroom homes available to local people through open market sales, private rent, affordable rent and shared ownership.

Homes at Hedhas Dowr have been built to Treveth’s sustainable design guide, designed to respect the surrounding Cornish landscape while supporting low carbon living. Renewable technology and sustainable building practices are being used across the development, with all 96 homes achieving an EPC B energy rating or above.

Founded by Cornwall Council in 2019, Treveth is based in Truro and currently employs 40 people. Its current residential sites include Park Lanneves in Bodmin, Hwel Kan in Blackwater and Hedhas Dowr in Newquay.

Several further schemes are also in development, including Penwinnick Road in St Austell, Treyew Road in Truro, Coinagehall Street in Penzance, Hedhas Tewynnow in Connor Downs and Gwel an Pras in Newquay.
