Newquay’s new Mount Wise play park gets its opening day

For most of the summer, the play area at Mount Wise Gardens has sat behind fencing while diggers, timber posts and rope nets took over the site. From Wednesday 2 September, the fencing comes down, the equipment goes public, and the council is throwing a free party to mark it.

The opening, in full

Newquay Town Council is inviting residents and visitors to the official opening of the new Mount Wise Play Park on Wednesday 2nd September, running from 12pm until 2pm. The event is free and open to everyone, at Mount Wise Gardens in Newquay, TR7 2AZ.

The park will be officially opened by the Mayor of Newquay, Cllr Drew Creek, and free refreshments will be available throughout the event.

Built by Wicksteed after months of local input

The new play park has been constructed over the summer by playground specialist Wicksteed, following consultation with the local community. Designed to be modern, accessible and inclusive, the park features a range of new equipment that provides play opportunities for children of all ages and abilities.

Part of a bigger plan for Mount Wise Gardens

The project forms part of the wider regeneration of Mount Wise Gardens, transforming the area into a more vibrant, welcoming and accessible community space. Alongside the new play facilities, the improvements are intended to encourage outdoor activity, social interaction and greater use of the gardens by residents and visitors, helping to support health, wellbeing and community cohesion.

Who’s paying for it

Central to the scheme is a £150,000 investment in the play park, funded through support from Boardmasters and Community Infrastructure Levy (CIL) contributions from developers.
