Truro Building Upgrade Revealed After Key Refurbishment

Truro City Council has completed external refurbishment works to the Zebs building in Truro, a council owned property leased to Young People Cornwall.

The work was finished last week and focused on improving the front elevation of the building. This included external redecoration along with the installation of new doors and windows.

Improvements to safety and efficiency

The upgrades have enhanced the overall appearance of the building while also improving its energy efficiency and safety.

The Zebs building is used by Young People Cornwall to deliver youth services for young people in the city. Maintaining the property helps ensure these services can continue to operate in a safe and welcoming environment.

Part of wider council programme

Truro City Council said the works form part of its ongoing programme to maintain and improve community buildings. The aim is to keep them safe, sustainable and fit for purpose.

The project also supports two of the Council’s objectives. Objective 1, ‘Our Communities’, focuses on strengthening community infrastructure and improving support for young people across Truro. Objective 6, ‘Our Buildings, Culture and Heritage’, centres on maintaining and modernising buildings so they remain compliant and capable of supporting local organisations and services.

Residents highlight importance of youth support

Feedback from residents highlighted the value of investing in services for young people. According to the council, 31% of residents identified supporting young people as one of its most important services. A further 24% said that more activities and opportunities for young people would improve their local area.

The refurbishment of the Zebs building is intended to help ensure those services can continue to be delivered in a suitable space for years to come.
