James Dixon Announced as Support for Hollie Cook in Falmouth

Music fans heading to Falmouth’s Princess Pavilions this Friday 27th March have been given another reason to look forward to the night, as James Dixon has been announced as the local opening support and special guest for Hollie Cook.

The show is set to take place at Princess Pavilions, with organisers confirming the addition of James Dixon to the bill earlier this week.

A familiar name on the Cornish scene

James Dixon has become a well known figure across Cornwall over the past decade, building a reputation as a full time performing musician. Originally from Suffolk, where he attended school alongside Ed Sheeran, he later moved to Exeter before settling in Cornwall around 10 years ago.

He is now described by Cornish Gig Guide as “an icon of the scene” and continues to perform regularly across the South West.

A distinct musical style

James Dixon describes his sound as Anglo-Celtic Soul, blending transatlantic folk blues influences from the 1960s and 70s with elements of grunge and rock.

His work has drawn praise from a number of established names. BBC Introducing called his music “Melodic, soulful and simply beautiful”, while Seasick Steve described him as “the best support act I’ve ever had”. Luther Dickinson has also referred to him as a “genuine troubadour straight out of the old school”.

Touring and releases

James Dixon has built up experience both in the UK and across Europe. He toured with Seasick Steve in 2022 and again in 2024, performing to more than 50,000 people across seven countries. He has also supported artists including Maddog McCrae, Toby Lee and Chris Wood, as well as touring with Wille and the Bandits in spring 2025.

His debut album Trespassing Light was self released during the 2020 lockdowns, marking his first professional studio project. His second album Good Ground, produced with James Bragg, was released on vinyl and CD before its digital release on 4th February 2025.

The album features a mix of original material and interpretations of Cornish, Irish and Scottish folk songs, alongside a cover of “Cornwall My Home”. It was recorded across locations including a home studio in North Cornwall, St Swithin’s Church in Launcells and a pub in Bude.

Continuing as an independent artist

James Dixon remains an independent musician without an agent or label, continuing to perform and grow his presence nationally.

His music is available across most streaming and social platforms, although he has removed it from Spotify, stating: “My music will not directly fund the manufacture of weapons.”

Friday’s show

The addition of James Dixon to Friday night’s line up adds a strong local presence to the event, with audiences set to experience his live performance ahead of Hollie Cook’s headline set.
