Falmouth Sea Shanty Festival raises over £30,000 for RNLI
Falmouth’s harbourside streets filled with maritime song again this weekend, and by the time the last chorus faded the town had pulled off what organisers are calling one of the best festivals in its history. The numbers, both on the streets and in the collection buckets, tell the story.

Busiest year to date
The Falmouth International Sea Shanty Festival returned for its 22nd year from 12 to 14 June, and early indications point to the largest crowds it has ever drawn. People packed the main stages and pub venues across the weekend to hear performances from groups that had travelled from across the UK and overseas.
More than ninety performing groups took part, alongside a full programme of market stalls, family-friendly activities and the Gala Concert that draws a crowd every year.
Over £30,000 for the RNLI
Alongside the music, the fundraising told its own story. So far £31,268.84 has been raised for the RNLI over the weekend, with the Falmouth Lifeboat team still counting.
Richard Gates, Chair of the Sea Shanty Festival Committee, said: “This has been one of our biggest and best Sea Shanty Festivals yet. To see the streets so full, and to know that has translated into such an incredible amount raised for the RNLI, is brilliant. Thank you to every performer, volunteer, trader, sponsor and visitor who made it happen, and of course to the people of Falmouth for opening up the town and making everyone feel so welcome.”
A new app and a park & ride
This year’s festival came with a couple of new additions. A festival app, developed by 3 Deep Media with support from Falmouth BID, gave visitors the full performance schedule, venue maps and festival information on their phones.
A new Shanty Shuttle Park & Ride from Penryn University Campus also helped ease the journey into town across the weekend. The festival ran alongside Falmouth Classics, with the sailing on the water and the singing in the streets sharing the same few days.

Sponsors and what comes next
Organisers thanked this year’s sponsors, including Seasalt Cornwall, Cornwall Hotel Collection, Warrens Bakery and Sharp’s Brewery, along with the local businesses, market traders and volunteers who supported the event.
Planning for 2027 is already underway. Next year’s festival runs from Friday 18 to Sunday 20 June.
