New Ice Cream Shop in Newquay Has a Surprise Inside
Ruby’s Ice Cream has officially opened its newest parlour in Newquay, marking its largest and most ambitious location to date.
The Cornish brand, founded by Mary and Joel in 2020, first began in a small shop in Fowey. Since then, it has expanded to Marazion and Mevagissey, building a reputation for luxury ice cream and creative treats. The Newquay opening brings that same approach to the north coast, with a few added twists.
A Bigger and More Playful Space
Located at 13a Bank Street, the new shop introduces a different kind of Ruby’s experience.
Inside, customers will find a life-size VW camper van where they can sit and take in the surroundings. The brand’s well-known life-size cow also features in the shop window.
A glass wall has been installed mid-shop, with plans for ice cream to be made in-house once things are up and running. Visitors will be able to watch new flavours being created and even suggest their own ideas.
Artwork From Local School Children
One of the more unusual features comes from pupils at Newquay primary schools.
As part of a “design your dream ice cream” competition, children submitted their ideas, which have now been used as artwork throughout the shop’s toilet area. The result is a space completely covered in their drawings.

Known for Treats and Creative Flavours
Ruby’s offers a range of products including luxury Cornish ice cream, sundaes, brownie sandwiches, milkshakes and its well-known hot chocolates.
The opening comes after some delays, with Italian freezers taking longer than expected to arrive. The team has now confirmed they are ready to welcome customers.
Grand Opening on 28th March
The shop officially opens on Saturday 28th March at 11am.
The ribbon will be cut by Miss England, Milla Magee, described as a local surfer, community advocate and ice cream fan.
A Space for the Community
Mary and Joel say:
“We don’t just want to sell ice cream; we want to create something people remember. Somewhere fun, welcoming and a little bit special. Newquay felt like the perfect place to do that.”
The pair also plan to work with local charities, community groups and events as part of their presence in the town.

A New Chapter for Ruby’s
For those familiar with Ruby’s, the Newquay shop keeps the same focus on quality and attention to detail, while introducing a larger and more interactive setting.
With its doors now open, this latest addition marks a new step for the growing Cornish brand.
