Forestry England Reminds Visitors About Litter Rules at Cardinham Woods

A reminder has been issued to visitors at Cardinham Woods, highlighting concerns over litter and the impact it is having on the forest environment.

Forestry England has clarified that all bins located within the woods are intended for dog waste only, while bins at the café are strictly for café waste. Leaving general rubbish in or around these bins is causing them to overflow, creating wider issues across the site.

Overflowing Bins Creating Bigger Problems

Rubbish left on top of bins or beside them is still considered litter. It does not stay in place, particularly in windy conditions, where it can quickly spread into the surrounding woodland.

This not only spoils the landscape but also puts wildlife at risk. Animals may mistake litter for food, which can make them ill and lead to further spread of waste throughout the forest.

Environmental and Fire Risks Highlighted

The reminder also points out that litter can increase the risk of wildfires. In addition, waste left behind can take hundreds of years to break down, causing long-term damage to natural ecosystems.

Visitors Encouraged to Take Litter Home

Forestry England has thanked the majority of visitors who already take their litter home and is encouraging everyone to continue doing their part to protect the woodland.

Visitors are advised to:

• Bring an extra bag for rubbish
• Choose reusable items where possible
• Take all litter home
