MAMMA MIA! Returns to Cornwall Playhouse for Two-Week Run

You know the songs. You probably know the words. The question is whether you’ll be in the audience when the world’s biggest jukebox musical rolls into Cornwall for a full fortnight.

MAMMA MIA! returns to the Cornwall Playhouse at Hall for Cornwall from Tuesday 2nd June to Saturday 13th June, bringing its Greek island setting and ABBA soundtrack to Truro for two weeks of performances.

A Mother, A Daughter, Three Possible Dads

The story follows a mother, a daughter and three men who might be her father, all set against the backdrop of a sun-soaked Greek island. The plot unfolds through the catalogue of ABBA songs written by Benny Andersson and Björn Ulvaeus, with a book by Catherine Johnson.

Judy Craymer, the show’s creator and producer, said: “I’m delighted to announce the 2025 UK tour cast of MAMMA MIA! and so excited for them to step into these roles. Our much-loved musical tells the story of a mother, a daughter and three possible dads, inspired by ABBA’s irresistible hits. We can’t wait for audiences across the country to escape to our Greek island idyll and have the time of their lives.”

The Cast Coming to Cornwall

Jenn Griffin leads the company as Donna Sheridan, with Ashleigh Jones as Alternate Donna. Rosie Glossop plays Rosie and Sarah Earnshaw plays Tanya, completing Donna’s old bandmates.

The three potential fathers are played by Luke Jasztal as Sam Carmichael, Richard Meek as Harry Bright and Mark Goldthorp as Bill Austin.

Lydia Hunt takes on Sophie Sheridan, the daughter at the centre of the story, with Joe Grundy as Sky. Bibi Jay plays Ali, Eve Parsons plays Lisa, Joseph Vella plays Pepper, Ethan Casey-Clothier plays Eddie and William Hazell plays Father Alexander.

The rest of the company is made up of Brook Blackford-Jenkins, James Brice, Aled Davies, Rebecca Donnelly, Ryan Ebbrell, Erin-Sophie Halliday, Marisa Harris, Natorii Illidge, Jay Jobarteh, Sarah McFarlane, Jacob Morrish, Rachel Oates, Megan Speirs, Cameron Sutherland, Richard Vorster and Maisy Wignall.

25 Years and Counting

The show is now in its 26th year. It has been seen by more than 11 million people in London’s West End across more than 10,000 performances. The international tour has reached 42 countries over 20 years, playing over 3,900 shows to audiences totalling more than 7.7 million.

On Broadway it ran for 14 years, making it the ninth longest-running show in the theatre’s history before recently returning to the Winter Garden Theatre. In 2011 it became the first Western musical to be staged in Mandarin in the People’s Republic of China.

In total, more than 70 million people have seen MAMMA MIA! live on stage worldwide.

The two films spun off from the stage show have done similarly well. The 2008 original became the highest-grossing live-action musical film of all time on its release, and the 2018 sequel MAMMA MIA! HERE WE GO AGAIN went on to become the most successful live musical film sequel ever. The combined cast across both films included Meryl Streep, Christine Baranski, Julie Walters, Pierce Brosnan, Colin Firth, Stellan Skarsgård, Amanda Seyfried, Dominic Cooper, Lily James, Andy Garcia and Cher.

The Creative Team

The show is directed by Phyllida Lloyd and choreographed by Anthony Van Laast. Design is by Mark Thompson, with lighting by Howard Harrison and sound by Andrew Bruce and Bobby Aitken. Martin Koch handled musical supervision, additional material and arrangements.

The UK tour is produced by Judy Craymer, Richard East and Björn Ulvaeus for Littlestar, in association with Universal Music Group and NGM.

The first performance at the Cornwall Playhouse is on Tuesday 2nd June at 7.30pm.
