Truro lantern workshops offer a place in the Father Christmas Parade

A paper lantern, a morning or afternoon at the Hall for Cornwall, and a place in the procession as Father Christmas makes his way through Truro.

That is what is on offer to children aged eight and over this year, with lantern making workshops lined up ahead of the city’s Father Christmas Parade.

City of Lights joins the parade again

Truro BID has invited Truro City of Lights to be represented in the Father Christmas Parade again this year.

So City of Lights artists will be running lantern making workshops at the Hall for Cornwall on Saturday 28 November. Each one involves making a small lantern inspired by this year’s Hall for Cornwall pantomime, Dick Whittington & His Mousehole Cat.

Everyone who makes a lantern will then be invited to join the parade and carry it as part of the procession.

When the Father Christmas Parade takes place

The parade takes place in the city centre on Wednesday 2 December at 6.30pm. Along with Father Christmas himself, it features dancers, circus performers and musicians.

It is organised and funded by Truro BID and sponsored by Coodes Solicitors. The lantern making workshops are supported by Truro BID and Hall for Cornwall.

Booking a lantern workshop

There are two slots on the day, one at 10am and one at 1.30pm. You can book a City of Lights lantern making workshop on the Hall for Cornwall website.

The workshop is suitable for ages eight and up. All children and young people under 16 must be accompanied by a ticket-holding adult.

Event listings for the Father Christmas Parade can be found on the Visit Truro website.
