Flagpole donated in memory of watchkeeper Andy at NCI St Agnes Head

Every time the flag rises above the lookout at St Agnes Head now, it will carry a name with it.

The crew at National Coastwatch Institution St Agnes Head held a commissioning ceremony on Monday evening for a new flagpole, donated by the family of Andy, a much-missed watchkeeper who died last year.

A gift from Andy’s family

The flagpole was given by Andy’s family and now stands as a tribute to his dedication, friendship and commitment to the station.

The sun was out for the evening. Family and friends gathered at the lookout alongside NCI colleagues to remember Andy and celebrate his life. The station said it was delighted to welcome so many people to share the occasion.

Remembered every time the flag flies

In their thanks, the team singled out Andy’s family for their generous donation and for letting the station honour his memory in a fitting way.

“He will always remain a valued member of the St Agnes Head family and will be remembered every time our flag flies above the station,” the station said.
