Police seize alcohol from group of minors at Hayle Towans

The dunes have always been where Hayle goes to escape. Warm evenings, a bit of space, the sea a short walk away. But the police say that something else has crept into the Towans this summer, and last weekend officers walked away from a large group of teenagers carrying their alcohol with them.

What officers found

The Hayle Neighbourhood Team says reports of anti-social behaviour across the Hayle Towans area have risen as the summer season gets going and the hot weather draws more people to the coast.

Most of the concerns being raised involve underage drinking, disorderly behaviour, and abusive and intimidating language directed at residents and visitors. Police say behaviour of that kind will not be tolerated and has a real impact on the people who live, work, and spend time along this stretch of coastline.

Last weekend, officers from the Neighbourhood Team carried out patrols in the area and seized alcohol from a large group of minors.

Patrols stepped up through the evenings

Increased patrols are now in place across Hayle Towans and the surrounding areas, with a focus on peak evening periods. Officers say the patrols are intended to prevent further incidents and to keep the Towans safe for everyone using them.

The team will keep engaging with young people, identifying those involved in anti-social behaviour, and taking action where it is needed.

Police thanked members of the public who have already reported incidents, saying that information is what allows them to target patrols and respond to what the community is telling them.

How to report anti-social behaviour

Anyone who witnesses anti-social behaviour can report it on the Devon & Cornwall Police website or by calling 101. In an emergency, always call 999.
