The summer holidays arrived on Newquay’s Killacourt with a soundtrack, a fancy dress parade and a steady supply of ice pops. Now Newquay Town Council has turned its attention to the local businesses that helped make the afternoon happen.

A send-off for the summer holidays

The School’s Out Disco took place on Saturday 25th July, bringing children and families together to mark the end of term. DJ Beaker handled the music, and the open green of the Killacourt gave everyone room to dance.

The council has singled out three local supporters for thanks. UK Surf & Skate Expo backed the event’s fancy dress competition, while 10 Over Surf Shop donated the prizes for it. Sainsbury’s Newquay provided free drinks and ice pops, a welcome treat on a summer afternoon and one that kept everyone refreshed as the day went on.

“The support we receive is invaluable”

Amy Smith, Newquay Town Council Events Manager, said the free programme depends on that kind of local backing. “We’re proud to offer a range of free events throughout the year for our residents and visitors to enjoy,” Amy said. “The support we receive from local businesses and community partners is invaluable, and we look forward to continuing to work together to deliver fun and inclusive events.”

There is more to come over the coming weeks. The next Newquay Sessions event, the Sunset Session, takes place on Saturday 15th August, and Stay and Play sessions are running in communities across the town on select dates through the summer holidays. All of it is free, and everyone is welcome.
