Fly-tipper tracked down and fined £500 near Roche

The gateway sits at the end of a quiet track at Belowda, the sort of spot that sees a tractor and little else. In June it saw something uglier. A spread of smashed tiles, splintered wood and concrete blocks lay dumped across the gravel, tipped up against a farm gate and left for someone else to deal with.

The waste was fly-tipped on a remote track at Belowda, near Roche. Officers from Cornwall Council investigated the incident in June and tracked down the man responsible, who admitted dumping it. He was issued with a £500 Fixed Penalty Notice and made to clear the rubbish himself.

It is a small win, but the council is keen to make the point that it does not let this kind of thing slide. Piles like this one do not clear themselves, and when the person who left them cannot be found, the bill lands with everyone else.
